[Ramadan):: What's with all these marriage questions..?

What was the first country to legalize same-sex marriage?
Christians: How can you be against gay marriage on the basis that you are trying to "protect its sanctity"?
when non Christians, and " unholy" people get married all the time? Not only that but there is no way to tell whether two straight people are getting married for the " right reasons" whatever those may be . Two people can get married regardless of if they love each other, so what sanctity are you really protecting? I know far more people who are married just because they have kids, and it is more beneficial financially to be married than single. There are loveless marriages everywhere. I'm sorry, but I find the excuse of protecting marriage and " what it stands for" to be pitiful and tired. Come up with a better reason to deny PEOPLE the RIGHTS they deserve. Preferably a non biblical one, seeing as how you can't create laws based on religious beliefs.
When did Joseph consumate his marriage with Mary? Was it before or after Jesus was born?
When people talk about perceiving the "traditional marriage", what is the tradition based on?

What does David Cameron say about homosexuality and gay marriage to avoid offending......?
the religious communities and more traditionalist individuals?Obviously, he is a PR man who would like to please as many voters as possible to ensure everything runs smoothly in the next election. At the same time, the attitudes he adopts when visiting a Muslim community may well differ considerable from those he expresses when he sees Peter Tatchell and his crew?
How do you feel about changing the word "marriage" to something else?
I've studied a lot of the arguments against gay marriage and it seems to me aside from the outright ignorance or bigotry that the most prominent argument against the legalization of gay marriage is that people are confusing religious marriage with the legal status of " being married" . That's not to say that they can't be one and the same as they currently are for homosexual couples and for those homosexual couples fortunate enough to live in a " gay marriage state" , but I believe that this specific group of people believes that legalizing homosexual marriage is somehow an insult to their religious beliefs...even if the religious organization to which they belong does not perform marriages for homosexual couples. In light of this, would it make more sense, as a compromise, to change the legal term " marriage" to something else altogether, like " legal union" or something to that effect, for both heterosexual and homosexual couples, at the Federal level? Or would it over complicate the matter? What do you think, and why? A little info about me I am a heterosexual woman who is proud to live in Massachusetts That's not true. Marriage started as a religious ceremony THEN became government sanctioned. You can be married by the church but not by law. This is an across the board change that I am asking about, purely hypothetical, for both heterosexual and homosexual couples. NOT singling out any one group.Ugh. These answers have not been helpful so far. Please read the whole question before answering. Thanks.
After almost nine years of marriage, my husband blurted out that black bras?
are evil. He further went on to say that Red is a devil color but pink and blue aren't so bad.I asked him about green bras and he toesses a bible at me.I guess he wants me to find something about green bras? Can any of you explain this to me or find a passage or something? Thanks
Christians do you see parallels between pleas against gay marriage and past ones against interracial marriage?
Sorry I said " pleas" in the question, " arguments" and " reasoning" wouldn't fit.On to the question, do you see any similarities between current arguments against gay marriage and pre 1967 arguments against interracial marriage? Back in the day the 1960's and back most Christians, and the farther you go back in America history the more that believed this, believed that interracial marriage went against God and for a while it was illegal for a black man to marry or even kiss a white woman. They used bible verses to justify this, such as Exodus 10 16, Deuteronomy 7 3 4, and one verse in Acts I can't remember. In 1965 one Virginia court judge said, and I quote, " Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red and he placed them on separate continents The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix." And in 1912 Georgia Senator Seaborn Roddenberry said, " Intermarriage between whites and blacks is repulsive and averse to every sentiment of pure American spirit. Let us uproot and exterminate now this debasing, ultra demoralizing, un American and inhuman leprosy." People said the same thing about interracial marriage then that they do about gay marriage now, they considered it unchristian and morally wrong just like they say about homosexual couples now. Now, today if a Christian said those things about interracial marriage they would be labeled a racist and a bigot, if they said it about a gay couple there would be no problem. So do you believe that these are legitimate parallels between the arguments against homosexual marriage now and past arguments against interracial marriage? And do you think that gay marriage will go the way of interracial marriage soon and by soon I mean within the next 30 years or so in this country? And for the Christians who say that the true church never will accept it, people just like you said that about interracial marriage in the 1960's and judging from that do you think the Church will chang it's mind again? And why or why not?The black atheist has spoken.jm1970 I wasn't saying the issue is exactly the same, thoug hI do feel it is similar. I was saying do yo ubelieve there are similarities i nthe arguments agaisnt homosexual marriage now as there were agaisnt interracial marriage back in the day. And I' m not in arelationship now, but when I get in a relationship it will be a striaght one and probably interracial just because the black chicks at my school are some Bianca's . And where I'm from it can be as hard having an interracial relationship as it is having a homosexual one when parents get involved.BibleChooser The Bible does prohibit interracial marriage and no churches would have married an interracial couple in the 1800's or early 1900's. And states defined marriage as a union between a man and woman of the same race actually interracial sex was a felony after precedence was set in the Pace v. Alabama case until the Loving v. Virginia case in 1967 which is where I got the quote from . And all Christian sects change their policies, for instance during the Dark Ages Charlemagne legally had five known wives, five known mistresses, and at least twenty kids and the Church had no problem with it, eventually this changed. And again I am fairly certai nth Church forbade miscegnation mixing races .
Is there a type of muslim marriage called or I've heard it been called "marriage by the kitab?"?
I don't know much about it. That's why I'm asking the question. I heard that you can touch, kiss, go out on dates, the woman can uncover in front of the male, and such but you don't consummate the marriage. I've heard people doing it, just to get to know each other better freely without chaperoning before they make the marriage official or because they live in different states and are waiting to be able to live together. I need more details about this because I don't want to be ill informed.
